Planet Comicon, March 28th and 29th

Hello everyone!

While I’m busy knocking out the next episode of P.I.G. Tales, I wanted to let everyone know that we will have a table at Planet Comicon this weekend Saturday and Sunday, March 28th and 29th, at the Overland Park International Trade Center located at 6800 West 115th Street, Overland Park, KS  66211.  This is near 115th and Metcalf, and essentially behind Jo-Anne Fabric & Craft stroe and what was formerly CompUSA.  It is located about 1/4 mile east of Metcalf on 115th Street.

I’ll be doing commission sketches and selling P.I.G. Tales t-shirts.  Also, we will be selling the first P.I.G. tales sketchbooks.  Each book with be 20 pages of sketches featuring your favorite P.I.G. Tales characters.  Also every sketchbook will get a free one-of-a-kind drawing completed in the book for you by me. Each sketchbook will sell for Ten dollars. However, if you are a member of the P.I.G. tales mailing list OR you wear a P.I.G. Tales T-shirt  to the show you can have one of these fine sketchbooks for just Five dollars. Yes, I know, I’ve lost my mind on this one.  Just a small way of thanking everyone who have continually supported the webcomic over the last couple of years.

So there it is.  I’ve got to get back on it.   Hope to see you at the show this weekend.

P.I.G. Tales is back online

September 2nd, 2008 | by Monte

Wow. The last several days have been VERY crazy. While performing some very much needed upgrades the whole site went down. When you upgrade software or move a website you just cannot guarantee that it will go smoothly. Even with the site backed up it still was a very tedious process to get it back to working again. Essentially, I had to completely recreate the entire site over the last couple of days. All the P.I.G. Tales episodes are up and working properly. I’ll be salvaging all the comments from readers and adding them back in next. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Comic-Con 2008: Part One

July 26th, 2008 | by Monte

Hello everyone. As I mentioned earlier, I’m in San Diego this week for Comic-Con and so I thought you might think it cool to see some of the stuff that I’ve seen this week.

Let me just say that there really aren’t alot of places where you’ll see a sign like this BUT comic con.  That pretty much sets the tone for the week.  Now some of the more crazy stuff I’m not going to put online because I do have some kids that check out the strip once in a while but let me tell you the place is full of crazy!

For those of you who are not comic book geeks like myself let me attempt to explain how cool this contraction is.  Next winter a movie called “The Watchmen” is being released. The movie is based on the huge comic book of the same name. (we upscale geeks refer to this as a “graphic novel” :) )  In the story one of the characters has an airship that flies all over the place called “Archie”.  This is the “Archie” they are using in the movie. It’s very close in appearance to how it was depicted in the book.
… this was very, very, cool.

I’ll have more for you later.  :)

Planet Comic Con

April 8th, 2008 | by Monte

Wow. What a weekend. I went to Planet Comic Con in Overland Park, Kansas last weekend.  My girlfriend and her two boys came along to help as I set up a table to market and get the work out about P.I.G. Tales.   I was very busy talking with attendees, and  drawing commission sketches for people.  I have to say I really enjoyed this.  By the end of the convention I could crank out a drawing quickly and with a good reasonable likeness.  I drew P.I.G. Tales characters, X-Men, Sponge Bob, and even my friend; Mike Worley, who shared the table with me.  I’m hopeful that there will be more successful events like this for us in the future.

There was a pretty big crowd of fans there.  The walkway between tables was easily 12 feet and it was packed at the height of the convention.  I got to see several local artists that I had not seen in several years.   These included Barbie artist Anna Maria Cool, and Star Trek artist Rob Davis.

We conducted a raffle both days of the con in which people who signed up on our email list  became registered to win a P.I.G. Tales T-shirt.  The Saturday T-Shirt Winner was Amber Lawerence and the Sunday T-Shirt Winner was Trinity Weatherholt.

I prepared for the convention by reading up in the new book :” How To Make Webcomics” by webcomics masters Brad Guigar, Dave Kellett, Scott Kurtz, and Kris Straub.  Also, I’ve been listening in on a Podcast on Itunes entitled : “Webcomics weekly”. This program provides some very helpful information in the area of webcomics.

I’m looking ahead to other conventions to market P.I.G. Tales. If there is one that any of you are familar with that in your opinion is a good one, please sound off and let me hear about it.

Until Next Time…..
